“I said I’d bet a thousand bucks that Jesus never sent old Judas to Hell” -Holden Caulfield (The Catcher in the Rye)

The Catcher in the Rye is a great book. Read it, if you ever get the chance.

My Response: For being a non-religious person, this is something quite smart for Holden to say. It’s quite smart for him in general- considering his intellectual level. I’m non-religious, as well. Not that I’m an atheist and I say God or Jesus don’t exist. But even I think that Jesus is merciful. I cannot imagine Him as someone who would damn a person to Hell, regardless of their actions. Because some people are evil; however, I do not believe anybody is born evil. I just believe that evil is instilled in/brought upon somebody through their environment and experience. Therefore, nobody is ever evil to begin with, and nobody deserves to go to Hell. If Jesus ever thought that, wouldn’t that make him evil, as well? And how can that be so when all Catholics worship Him and portray Him to be the upmost of holy and good figures of their religion? If Catholics were to worship an evil deity, that would make them evil, too- and that would make their religion and beliefs nothing short of hypocrisy.
